What is a Segway

The Segway Transporter is a self-balancing electronic personal assistive mobility device (EPAMD) designed to go anywhere people do. It has two computers and five solid-state gyroscopic accelerometers and tilt sensors (similar to modern jets) that automatically respond to your body's movements...

You simply step up onto a flat platform between two wheels (one wheel on your left and one on your right) and hold onto the handlebar. Then, just lean forward to go forward, lean backward to move backward and tilt the handlebar left or right to turn in that direction. The platform you stand on always stays level, even while traveling up and down hills (like an escalator) so you're always upright as you glide through any environment.

Out West Segway Tours uses the newest, most advanced Generation II model i2 Transporters.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I HAVE TO RESERVE?

Tours frequently sell out, for your convenience we have an on-line reservation system. We recommend that you reserve as early as possible to preserve an available space for you or your group. Tours typically fill to capacity 1 (one) week in advance for most weekends between June and October and 1-3 days in advance for weekday tours. Occasionally we have space for walk-ins, however this is unpredictable and usually limited.

IS THERE A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ON TOURS?

Yes, to ensure every Segway rider's safety, the maximum number of people permitted to ride in each tour is currently six.

CAN I TAKE PICTURES DURING THE TOUR?

Of course! However, to ride properly and keep your hands safely on the handlebar we recommend asking your tour guide to take some picture poses. We have some designated photo stops on the tour.

DO WE GO INSIDE BUILDING ATTRACTIONS?

All tours have a brief stop at selected scenes for photo opportunities. Our Tours includes a stop at the shores of Lake Superior and at the entrance of the GunFlint Trail. You will enjoy the beautiful scenery and experience the uniqueness of this somewhat costal city.

CANCELLATION NOTICE POLICY...

We do not overbook and guarantee that your reservation will be honored and available for your tour. As space is also limited if/when your tour becomes full we will deny other reservation inquiries for the same time schedule. Therefore and upon booking a reservation, the tickets are necessarily non-refundable; however your tour can be rescheduled or exchanged for vouchers under certain circumstances. NO SHOWS will be charged the full price.

WEATHER POLICY...

Our tours take place rain or shine. We have ponchos available to purchase and will always refund the poncho price if it's unopened.

In the rare instance that we're forced to cancel an event ticket-holders could reschedule their reservation to another time (subject to space-availability) or a refund will be granted for out of town guests. Grand Marais Segway Tours reserves the right to cancel a scheduled tour with short notice due to acts of nature such as lightning, thunder, heavy rains or high winds. Our tour department will make every effort to maintain normal operations but if we must cancel a tour then guests will be given a refund or issued vouchers for a later date.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR AND BRING WITH ME?

Dress appropriately for the weather. Each Segway is equipped with a Handlebar Bag so you can take layers and jackets off and stow them inside. We provide and require that helmets be worn. Please wear closed, flat shoes(please no flip flops are allowed). If it's hot out and you're sensitive to the sun you may also want to bring along some sun screen, we do have sunscreen packets for sale.
